1978 Chevrolet Camaro: raw power
In the spring of 1977, to the great joy of fans, Chevrolet decided to revive the legendary Z28 series, which featured not only a new engine, but also significant technical and stylistic improvements magazin de piese auto online.

The Z28 designation first appeared in December 1966 as a special sports package that customers could order with the first generation Camaro. The evolution of this version was tied to the Sports Car Club of America regulations, according to which cars competing in the Trans Am series had to have an engine with a displacement of 302 cubic inches (4948 cc). Since it turned out that Chevrolet did not have a suitable engine for this purpose, the company's engineers came up with a brilliant idea - to combine the block of the existing 237 cubic inch V8 with other components and parts of the brand, so that the displacement would increase to 302.4 cubic inches (4955 cc).
Despite its good performance, Chevrolet discontinued the model in 1974, as it became too expensive due to skyrocketing insurance rates and regulations requiring the use of unleaded gasoline. It also proved to be a waste of fuel, which became a serious problem after the oil crisis of the mid-1970s.
In 1977, however, Chevrolet decided to rehabilitate the attractive Z28 and resume its production. The external differences are immediately noticeable in the new plastic bumpers, painted in the body color. The radiator grille is made of urethane, and a second air intake has been added below it, which expands the cooling area. New taillights are also installed, identical to those of the 1974 model year, but with three colors.
A number of improvements have also been made to the interior. Among the most significant of these is the ability to adjust the steering wheel in six positions. The instrument panel is also completely new. It has a rectangular shape and includes a speedometer, tachometer, ammeter, coolant temperature gauge, fuel level and an electric clock. In addition to power steering and power brakes, the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 can also be ordered with air conditioning and electric windows. Under the hood is the well-known V8 350 engine. However, due to stricter regulations on the level of harmful emissions, which came into force in 1978, the power was reduced to 170 hp. The standard gearbox is a manual, four-speed, but as an option, a four-speed with shorter gears or a three-speed automatic can be ordered.
In 1978, Camaro sales surpassed all previous years with 272,631 units, of which 54,907 were of the Z28 model.
Available versions in 1978 included the base Sport Coupe, Type LT, Z28 and Rally Sport. They were offered with a 6-cylinder engine with a working volume of 4.1 l (112 hp), as well as with two V8 engines of 5.0 and 5.7 l (147-188 hp). To the delight of fans in Bulgaria, one such car is also available in our country. This is the 1978 example shown in the photos, which is part of the collection of Krasimir Yovchev from Burgas.
Conclusion
The Camaro is Chevrolet's second sports car, in which the wild nature of the Corvette is now more cultivated, the image becomes more commercial, and the raw power is deployed in unimaginable dimensions. The Camaro is the quintessential American sports car of the 70s, an iconic symbol of an extreme era that will never be repeated.
