ABB acquires Sensorfact, expanding its digital energy management
ABB has acquired Sensorfact BV, a fast-growing energy management company headquartered in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The acquisition further expands ABB’s digital energy management offering and is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025. Founded in 2017, Sensorfact offers a scalable software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution that helps small and medium-sized businesses use AI in their operations and energy management to reduce costs and increase efficiency. The company has more than 250 full-time employees in Utrecht, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Berlin and serves more than 1,900 customers across Europe.
Massimiliano Cifaliti, President of ABB’s Smart Power division, said: “ABB and Sensorfact have a mission to help companies improve their energy efficiency, reduce maintenance costs and increase production. ABB is expanding its portfolio of energy management solutions that use big data and artificial intelligence to make power distribution and energy management both efficient and intelligent. This acquisition advances our digital strategy and provides an innovative way for customers to digitize their manufacturing operations – helping them become more economical and cleaner.”
Sensorfact’s SaaS-based solution includes plug-and-play sensors that measure consumption at the machine level and connect to an intelligent software platform. The company uses algorithms to analyze the data, identify energy-saving opportunities, and provide easy-to-implement advice that is unique to each customer’s operations.
Sensorfact CEO Pieter Brueckema said: “Sensorfact provides a single platform for smart factories that allows customers to easily collect utility and production data and reduce costs and carbon emissions. We help customers achieve significant savings and continue to innovate to help them reduce their industrial waste even further. A report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), Energy Efficiency: A Decade for Action, says the world needs to double progress in energy efficiency over the next decade to minimize the environmental impact of rising global energy demand. The report highlights the importance of using digital innovations to drive smarter energy management.
