Audi Q7 - the late giant (retrospection)
What Bulgaria wrote 20 years ag piese auto online.

"The last will be first." Biblical wisdom takes on an interesting sound against the backdrop of the gigantic Audi Q7, which appears last among the German prestige SUV models, but on the other hand surpasses them all with its length of over 5 m.
The long-awaited Q7 is the first “real” full-size SUV from the Ingolstadt brand – a fact that also sounds quite strange, considering Audi’s fame in the field of all-wheel drive. Strange, because the brand, which has been associated with the legendary quattro for a quarter of a century, was seriously behind with this premiere. Just for comparison – the G-model appeared with the Mercedes emblem back in 1979, and the first generation of the American-made Stuttgart ML saw the light of day in 1997. BMW was not late either and in the meantime also has two SUV models.
The Q7 is a full 34 centimeters longer than the VW Touareg
It is clear that whoever comes last and wants to be first must definitely come up with something more original and better than the established products of the competition. To describe this more original and better thing, Audi uses the term “Performance SUV”. The exact content of this concept is definitely related, first of all, to the dimensions – the Q7 is a really big car with a length of more than 5 (5.09 m), a width of almost 2 (1.98 m) and a height of 1.74 meters. Just for comparison, we will point out that the length of the far from undersized Touareg (on whose technical platform the Audi SUV model is based) reaches “barely” 4.75 meters…
The interior of the Q7 is also extremely lavish and offers three rows of seats with a capacity of up to seven seats. The individual seats of the second row can be individually adjusted longitudinally and folded like those of the last row. Thanks to these options, those who want to transport large volumes in the new Q7 are practically free from any obstacles - the maximum capacity of the Ingolstadt SUV amounts to an impressive 2035 liters, and with five seats occupied, the trunk holds an equally impressive 775 liters. This is also more than you will find in the new model's direct competitors...
The important questions about power and price remain. The Q7 debuts on the market in two versions in terms of engines – with a diesel 3.0 TDI with 233 hp/500 Nm and a petrol V8 with a working volume of 4.2 liters (350 hp/440 Nm). The smallest number in the price list for the German market can be found against the basic version of the diesel version – the amount is 48,900 euros and means that at least in terms of price the Q7 is ahead of the Mercedes M-class from the very beginning. The question is whether the other qualities of the big Audi will be enough to bring the newcomer to the leading position. The answer will be given by the first comprehensive test…
