BMW Concept Speedtop: Shooting Brake dream (VIDEO)

For more than 20 years now, BMW has been organizing the Concours d'Elegance in Villa d'Este, on the shores of Lake Como in Italy. Traditionally, this is an occasion to present its own studies, such as the current 8 Series. Last year, we showed you the Skytop concept, which resulted in a limited small series and 50 units of the car were still produced. This year is no exception - BMW is presenting the Concept Speedtop at the legendary event piese auto online.

Unlike the Skytop, where BMW was actually waiting for feedback from potential customers, this Speedtop has already been confirmed to be produced in a small series. Unlike the previous 50, here there will even be 70 units. This is an increase of 20 units. Regarding the design of the front, we can safely say that this is a vision reminiscent of the Skytop. We have a rather sharp snout, following the yacht style. The center line slightly reminds us of older models like the Z8, but also somewhat of the 503. By the way, the paint finish is the same as the Skytop, but in this case reversed. That is to say, a combination of Floating Sunstone Maroone, and in the ceiling area – Floating Sundown Silver. Let's now continue with the elegantly shaped front end with the side profile, starting with the rims. The front ones are 20 inches, the rear ones are 21 inches, now they have a new design. Let's look at the profile line again, with those elegant lines.

The exterior length of 4.98 m can be positioned relatively accurately between the 8 Series Coupe and the 8 Series Grand Coupe. The width is 2.17 m, and with its height of 1.36 m the car is relatively low. This is also clearly visible on that roof line, and this is the moment when we can already categorically state that the concept has become a Shooting Brake.

And as befits a Shooting Brake, it's a classic combination of Coupe and Estate. We notice the sharply sloping roofline, the prominent rear end, the very impressively drawn lines that we've already seen at the front and sides, and behind these charms lies a luggage compartment with a double floor for loading luggage.

The powertrain is provided by a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, which we know from the M8 Competition. That means 625 hp and 850 Nm, and in this model, acceleration from 0 to 100 is in 3.3 seconds.

The Concept Speedtop's interior is clearly related to the 8 Series in terms of technology. The center console is from there, as is the center armrest, the steering wheel, and the OS.8 infotainment system. By the way, there is also a difference from the Concept Skytop in the color of the interior. While the previous concept had a monochrome interior, here the solution is two-tone, and entirely made of leather.
