BYD overtakes Toyota in electric vehicle sales in Japan
For the first time, Chinese carmaker BYD has sold more electric cars in the Japanese market than its rival Toyota – and thus overtook the traditional brand in its own market filtru combustibil filtron pret.

As reported by Chinese trade publication Car News China, BYD sold exactly 2,223 electric vehicles last year, while Toyota delivered 2,038. BYD's Japanese sales in this segment increased by 54 percent. Toyota, on the other hand, saw a 30 percent decline.
Japan is considered a difficult market for electric vehicles
Electric car manufacturers are having a tough time in Japan. As Car News China reports, the share of cars in total sales is set to fall to less than two percent by 2024. Reuters reports the reason: local brands are producing hybrids, not fully electric cars. The Japanese government has already started funding programs to expand charging infrastructure.
Toyota has been selling its first electric model in Japan, the bZ4X, since 2022. Its sales figures have increased by ten percent to 1,012 units in 2024, according to Car News China. BYD has been exporting its Atto 3 SUV and Dolphin compact car to Japan since 2023. Among Japanese brands, Nissan dominates the electric vehicle market, with about half of all electric vehicles coming from the brand’s plants.
