Citroen Berlingo turns 30

Exactly three decades ago, the world of cars changed forever. In 1996, Citroën introduced a model that no one could easily categorize, but everyone immediately fell in love with. Today, in 2026, Citroën Berlingo turns 30, cementing its status as one of the most successful and recognizable models in the history of the French brand. This is exactly what the numbers show – total sales of Berlingo (passenger and cargo versions combined) since its launch in 1996 have exceeded 5.6 million magazin de piese auto online.

The revolution called "Ludospace"

When the first Berlingo rolled off the assembly line in July 1996, it put an end to the era of the “panniers”, which were simply cars with a “cargo box”. Citroën pioneered the concept of an integrated volume – a car designed from the ground up as a single unit. The Berlingo proved that a car could be both the perfect partner for business during the week and the family’s best friend for camping and weekend trips.

Citroën Berlingo defined the modern multi-purpose vehicle segment, making the concept of integrated design a global standard. Over its 30 years, Berlingo has undergone several major transformations, each raising the bar:

Anniversary initiatives in Europe and Bulgaria

In honor of its 30th birthday, Citroën has launched a series of initiatives under the slogan "30 years of trust". In several European countries, including the Czech Republic, the brand has announced a national search for the oldest Berlingo in motion to prove the legendary robustness of the model. And in our country, the anniversary year of 2026 is marked by the long-awaited return of a specific configuration, created specifically for the needs of Bulgarian businesses and large families. The new Citroën Berlingo MPV is now available in a version that combines three key advantages: an economical diesel engine, M1 homologation and a capacity of 6+1 seats.

30 years of innovation

From the first integrated design in 1996, to the introduction of sliding doors and the Modutop roof in 2000, to today's modern version, Berlingo remains Citroën's second best-selling model after the C3. With the new M1 6+1 modification, the brand proves that it continues to offer pragmatic solutions that the market expects.
