Dacia has officially presented its largest SUV
As announced in the Renaulution strategic plan in January 2021, Dacia, already the leading brand in the B-segment in Europe, intends to conquer the C-segment. The brand enters the C-SUV segment with the Bigster, a completely new model that exemplifies Dacia's values – affordable yet cool, Eco-Smart, reliable and adventurous piese auto romanesti.
The design of the new Bigster demonstrates robustness and the ability to support customers in their work, leisure and family activities. The new Bigster's strong presence and sense of solidity are further emphasized by a compact, vertical front end typical of SUV models. The front retains the Dacia design, with a wide grille in gloss black with the iconic 'Dacia Link' logo in the centre. The sculpted horizontal front hood is designed to give the driver a clear view of the road. The style of the new Bigster is aimed at the essentials, without forgetting the "cool" touch, which is also part of the brand values and customer expectations of the C-SUV. But Dacia is cool in its own way. The graphic design adds a touch of casual elegance to the front and doors, as well as above the rear license plate. And instead of following the trend towards gloss black, Dacia designers have opted for a mix of gloss black and matt, creating a stronger and more durable finish. The new Bigster: solid, cool and eco-smart.
The front and rear protective skins are solidly painted, making them more durable and resistant. The protection that goes around the entire body – the sides, the wheel arches and the lower part of the bumpers – is made by Starkle®. Dacia uses this material for a more sustainable approach. Developed by the brand's engineers and featuring recycled materials, Starkle® is used in its raw, unpainted form (more info below). Very Dacia, and therefore very functional, the new Bigster adapts to the tastes and habits of customers in the C-SUV segment. The new Bigster is fitted with 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels as standard, with 19-inch graphic design wheels available as an option on the top-spec Journey version. On higher trim levels, customers can opt for a black roof, which creates a two-tone finish that emphasizes the car's design lines – a first for Dacia. A new body color is also available – Indigo Blue. Exclusive to the new Bigster, this metallic shade adds a touch of elegance, oozing status but keeping it simple.
In the interior of the new Bigster, designers focused on the most important: space, ergonomics and comfort. The high-mounted vertical dashboard increases the space available to front passengers.
For greater efficiency, driving information is grouped on the 7- or 10-inch digital instrument panel (depending on trim level), while information related to the multimedia system is displayed on the 10.1-inch central touchscreen (standard equipment for all Bigster versions). An elegant green line runs between the two screens, visually integrating them into the dashboard. Depending on the equipment level, the new Bigster offers three types of center console at the front: low, medium or – for the first time on a Dacia – high console with armrest (with fridge compartment), induction charger and generous storage space. Special emphasis is placed on the upholstery of the seats.
Depending on the equipment level, the focus is on simplicity and attractiveness (Bigster Essential and Expression), durability and easy cleaning (Extreme) or increased comfort (Journey). Finally, Dacia's Y-shaped signature underlines the connection between the interior and exterior design of the new Bigster: ₋ Inside, at the Y-shaped air vents (in Copper Brown on the Extreme trim level) and at the door handles. ₋ On the outside, in the Y-shaped light signature at the front and the LED lights at the rear. ₋ The new Bigster is a unique vehicle that provides all the essentials required by customers in the C-SUV segment at a Dacia price, reflecting the brand's positioning as "the best value for money". The new Bigster is built on the CMF-B, the platform at the heart of Dacia's industrial strategy, with the flexibility to provide particularly generous interior space. The car's features are designed to meet the demands of customers in the C-SUV segment, in terms of: acoustics (acoustic windshield, thicker glazing, engine acoustics), finishing elements (new carpeting, sensor LED) and seating comfort (passenger lumbar support adjustment, rear seatback, etc.), along with dual-zone front air conditioning with rear vents. The new Bigster is one of the most spacious vehicles in the C-SUV segment, satisfying a key requirement for customers in this market. The car comfortably accommodates five people with their luggage.
Headroom is best-in-class both front and rear, for a particularly palpable feeling of spaciousness. Rear passengers get best-in-class legroom for exceptional comfort on long journeys. The new Bigster also has best-in-class boot capacity – up to 667 liters according to VDA, with the added space under the boot shell. An important feature for family trips. The length and height of the luggage space set new standards in the C-SUV market. The new Bigster offers a host of practical features and details that allow customers to make the most of the exceptional interior space. The 40/20/40 split bench rear seat allows users to carry bulky items without compromising passenger comfort. When there are only two people sitting in the back, comfort can be further improved by folding down the center part of the backrest, which becomes an armrest including two cup holders and a phone holder. With the backrests folded, the Bigster offers a flat boot floor with an exceptional maximum load length of 2.7 metres.
The Easy Fold function makes it easy to fold the rear backrests out of the trunk using two levers located on the left and right of the luggage compartment. The durable, easy-to-clean rubber insole provides ideal protection for the boot floor. When not in use, it can be easily rolled up and stored away. It is standard equipment for the Extreme version and is available as an accessory for all Bigster models. The new Bigster also features YouClip, Dacia's smart accessory system. An easy-to-use and resourceful system for practical and strong fastening of a wide range of accessories in key places in the passenger compartment. The Bigster comes standard with five YouClip points: on the dashboard, on the side of the passenger console, on the back of the center console, in the trunk and on the inside of the tailgate. Customers can add two more points using the headrest support available as an accessory. The YouClip attachment points can be used for a tablet stand, a luggage bag, a phone stand with or without an induction charger, a coat hanger or the smart 3-in-1 device that combines a cup holder, a bag hook and a portable lighting. This 3-in-1 system is standard equipment on the Bigster Extreme. All YouClip compatible accessories are available in the Dacia network.
The new Bigster meets the basic requirements of customers in the C-SUV segment in terms of equipment, focusing on everyday comfort and convenience with a wide selection of features as standard or optional equipment depending on the version. Access to the Bigster is made easy by the Hands Free key and power tailgate. Standard equipment on the Bigster Journey and optional on the Extreme, the electric tailgate can be activated in three ways: via a button on the trunk next to the license plate light, via a button on the dashboard or via the key. All models of the new Bigster come with a 10.1-inch central touchscreen as standard.
The Bigster Essential and Expression feature the Media Display multimedia system with four speakers and wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay®/Android AutoTM. The Bigster Extreme and Journey feature the Media Nav Live multimedia system, which also provides connected navigation with real-time traffic information and map updates for eight years. Media Nav Live has an Arkamys 3D audio system with 6 speakers. Setting high standards for driving pleasure, the new Bigster comes standard with a 7-inch (Essential and Expression) or 10-inch (Extreme and Journey) digital instrument panel. The customizable color display allows drivers to display the information they find most useful. Users of the new Bigster will also appreciate the dual-zone climate control with special vents for rear passengers, the opening panoramic roof, the wireless smartphone charger, and more. This is standard or optional equipment depending on the version, so customers always have a choice. The ergonomics of the driving position is fundamental to safety. With the Journey trim level, the new Bigster comes standard with power driver seat height and tilt controls and manually adjustable lumbar support. The Bigster Journey and Extreme also feature adaptive cruise control (ACC) as standard on the hybrid versions to meet the needs of business customers and fleet owners on long journeys. The new Bigster meets the latest European GSR II safety standards with a range of driver assistance systems across all trim levels: advanced emergency braking system (urban/extra-urban with consideration of vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists), traffic sign recognition with speed warning, reverse parking assist, emergency braking alert, lane departure warning, lane keeping assistant, driver attention warning and eCall emergency call system.
To make life easier for customers, Dacia combines these systems with an intelligent function called My Safety. This allows the driver to instantly switch certain ADAS to user mode at start-up to avoid having to adjust each one without time. The new Bigster is the first car to be delivered with Dacia's new electrified powertrains, delivering best-in-class efficiency. Adhering to its values, Dacia is increasing the use of sustainable materials on the Bigster.
Hybrid, only on gasoline and on gasoline and propane-butane
The Dacia Bigster is the first Renault Group model to receive the all-new HYBRID 155 power unit, combining a 107 hp 4-cylinder gasoline engine, two electric motors (a 50 hp motor and a high-voltage starter/generator) , a battery with a capacity of 1.4 kWh (230V) and an automatic electric gearbox. It has four gears for the internal combustion engine and two more for the electric motors. This combined technology is possible thanks to the absence of a clutch. The HYBRID 155 power unit completes the HYBRID 140 range available on the new Duster and Jogger. It provides more power (+ 15 hp), more torque (+ 20 Nm to 170 Nm for the internal combustion engine only) and increased towing capacity (+ 250 kg to about one tonne). Efficiency is also improved, with a 6% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, mainly thanks to optimized engine speed management. Combining regenerative braking with the battery's high energy recovery capacity and the efficiency of the automatic gearbox, the Bigster can remain in all-electric mode for up to 80% of the time in the city. In addition, the car always starts in full electric mode.
Offered for the first time in the Dacia range with this power level, this power unit is based on the TCe 130 available in the new Duster. This first level of electrification combines a new-generation 1.2-liter 3-cylinder gasoline turbo engine based on the Miller cycle (optimized efficiency and reduced pump losses) with a 48V mild hybrid system and a 6-speed manual gearbox. The hybrid system supports the internal combustion engine during the start-up and acceleration phases, optimizing driving pleasure and reducing average fuel consumption (5.6 l/100 km) and CO2 emissions (129 g/km) by around 10% compared to LPG of equivalent power. Regenerative braking recharges the 0.8 kWh battery as part of a process that is completely transparent to the driver.
Dacia is the undisputed LPG leader in Europe and the only car manufacturer to offer a petrol/LPG dual fuel engine option for all its internal combustion models with the ECO-G designation. With the new Bigster, Dacia opens new horizons with an engine combining two types of fuel with a 48V mild hybrid system. The mild hybrid system supports the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine, whether running on gasoline or LPG, during the launch and acceleration phases, for greater driving pleasure and more efficiency. Regenerative braking recharges the 0.8 kWh battery as part of a process that is completely transparent to the driver. When running on LPG, the new Bigster ECO-G 140 emits an average of 10% less CO2 than an equivalent non-hybrid petrol engine. With two tanks containing a total of 99 liters of fuel (50 liters of petrol and 49 liters of LPG), it has a range of up to 1,450 km. Installed under the boot floor, the LPG tank does not compromise the luggage space. The switch on the dashboard allows a quick and seamless transition from one type of fuel to another.
The new Bigster is built to go off the beaten track with an all-wheel drive system mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a 48V mild hybrid system for maximum efficiency. This hybrid system supports the 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine during start-up and acceleration, reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions while providing more driving pleasure. Regenerative braking recharges the 0.8 kWh battery as part of a process that is completely transparent to the driver.
In line with its Eco Smart approach, Dacia is proud to use a greater proportion of sustainable materials in the new Bigster. Overall, the Bigster contains almost 20% recycled plastics, a higher percentage than is common in the automotive industry. The new Bigster uses Starkle®, a material invented by Dacia engineers and used for the first time in the new Duster. Starkle® contains up to 20% recycled polypropylene. Because it is used raw and undyed, it has a smaller carbon footprint in production. The underbody protectors and wheel arches, as well as parts of the front and rear bumpers, are made from Starkle®, recognizable by its colorful appearance. The front and rear protective skins of the new Bigster are solidly painted, a technique that uses less paint while keeping the parts looking good for longer Ulei motor.
