Ford GT Mk IV – the fastest model on the Ring with only ICE drive
The supercar with the Blue Oval logo not only became the fastest American car, but also set several other record magazin de piese auto online.

Earlier this week, rumors swirled that Ford was making a comeback. The automaker was looking to reclaim the record for fastest American car at the Nurburgring from rival Chevrolet, whose Corvette ZR1X last lapped the legendary track in 6:49.275.
At the end of March, a Ford Mustang GTD was spotted at the Nürburgring – but it was clearly just a warm-up before the launch of a new, significantly more powerful record contender. 60 years after the legendary Ford GT40 first shook up the world endurance racing scene and ten years after the modern GT won its class at Le Mans, the American automaker sent the Ford GT Mk IV to the Ring – and crushed the Corvette’s achievement.
With a time of 6:15.977 minutes, the new Ford GT was about 34 seconds faster than the Chevrolet. So there will be no need for the Mustang GTD to do any laps at all, as the GT Mk IV becomes the fastest American car on the Nordschleife in the prototype category.
The GT Mk IV, which probably only resembles its predecessors in name, ranks third among the fastest cars on the Nürburgring. This ranking includes both purebred racing cars and electric prototypes. Only Timo Bernhardt, with his incredible time of 5:19.546 in the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, and Romain Dumas in the VW ID.R (6:05.336 minutes) were faster.
But if we consider only models powered solely by an internal combustion engine, the Ford GT already holds the undisputed record. In addition, the "American" is also the fastest car on the Ring available for purchase by private customers.
800 horsepower, series of 67 units
Only 67 units of the GT Mk IV will be built. The supercar is powered by a specially developed Ford EcoBoost engine with twin turbochargers, which generates over 800 hp. Power is transmitted to the wheels via a specially designed racing transmission. The longer wheelbase and the Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) racing suspension, developed by Multimatic, provide optimal traction. The carbon fiber body with Long Tail design allows the generation of optimal aerodynamic downforce.
The record-breaking feat was achieved by Ford Racing factory driver Frederic Verwisch. With two wins at the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2019 and 2022, the Belgian driver probably knows all 73 treacherous corners by heart. In 2025, he also became one of the first winners in the new Mustang GT3 at the Daytona 24 Hours.
Verwisch commented that the car responded immediately and with great precision to every movement of the steering wheel. The machine inspired a huge amount of confidence, especially on difficult sections such as Kesselchen or the Airport, allowing the driver to constantly seek new limits of traction.
