Mercedes S 680 Guard and Mercedes AMG S 63 E Performance: two high-level meetings

WHO THINKS that the Maybach S-Class models are the icing on the cake when it comes to cars with a star in the emblem, does not know the importance of the AMG S 63 E Performance and S 680 Guard brothers. There is no greater stardust on four wheels – if necessary, even armored against Dragunov sniper fire…

The Mercedes AMG S 63 E Performance and S 680 Guard show how differently the luxury of the S-Class can be interpreted among the elite. Those who prefer sports and leave their car in the garage when traveling long distances can afford the 5.34-meter-long Mercedes AMG S 63 E Performance – a benchmark in terms of dynamics – for a base price of 420,000 leva. The only drawback that causes pain to customers in the States and the United Arab Emirates: the Swabian top model has to limit itself to an 8-cylinder engine, since the prestigious V12 unit is reserved for the Maybach models and the armored version of the Mercedes S 680 Guard. The AMG version with the rather complicated model designation Mercedes AMG S 63 E Performance certainly does not lack power, because the 8-cylinder biturbo engine with a displacement of 4 liters, finely distributed over eight combustion chambers, is capable of miracles. For even more complete power deployment, an electric motor located in the transmission tunnel takes care of it and supplements the 612 horsepower of the V8 internal combustion engine with 190 hp. This makes a system power of an impressive 802 hp and a gigantic maximum torque of 1430 Nm, which ensure that after full throttle in the far left lane, the wrinkles on your face will be stretched.

The ambitious driver will certainly be happy that the sportiest of all current S-Classes transmits its power to the road via its four wheels. The weight is impressive, however, as the battery in the rear and the luxurious interior equipment on the long wheelbase require their victims on the scale. The hybrid colossus weighs exactly 2,600 kilograms, with the electric motor powered by a 10.36-kilowatt-hour battery taking care of the driver's power requirements first and foremost. The electric range of 30 kilometers is not even worth mentioning in this comparison. Even the Swabians currently have models that can cover 100 kilometers on electricity, but they cannot sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 290 km/h on the highway. The consumption values - 4.6 liters of A95H and 22.2 kWh per 100 kilometers are unlikely to interest anyone in the league of cars priced around 400,000 leva. The maximum charging power of the sportiest S-class is quite small at 3.7 kilowatts.

The AMG version of the S-Class hardly shows off its sporty exclusivity and gigantic power reserves. However, it could also be much more unobtrusive, as the black Mercedes S 680 Guard is currently the most exclusive opportunity to own a Mercedes S-Class. Unlike the S 63, in the S 680 you will sit mainly in the back on the right. Of course, it will also be fun to drive this colossus, but threatened customers are generally not allowed to get behind the wheel. Because the heavily armored Mercedes S 680 Guard was developed as a fortress on wheels with a driver. A tank on four wheels in the clothes of a modern luxury limousine.
