The Nissan Leaf has been named the World's Best Compact Car by the Women's Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) jury, the only automotive award judged entirely by female automotive journalists.
The new Leaf is the third generation of the pioneer in mass-market electric vehicles, and the award recognizes its design, powertrain dynamics, intuitive technologies, and its historic role in driving consumers' transition to electric mobility.
The WWCOTY award recognizes cars that perform best in areas that are particularly important to everyday drivers – safety, quality, value, design, ease of driving, convenience and environmental impact. The jury, made up of 84 female automotive journalists from 54 countries, does not select a “women’s car” because cars are not gender-specific – but rather evaluates candidates based on universal criteria that are important to all drivers.
The new Nissan LEAF combines a sleek aerodynamic design, an advanced electric drive system with extended range thanks to 52 or 75 kWh battery options, and intuitive technology for connected and confident driving.
For a hassle-free everyday driving experience, the new LEAF is equipped with the latest Google technology. The Google built-in package includes Google Maps, the Play Store, where apps can be downloaded directly to the car, and the Google Assistant, which allows users to control navigation, climate control and media hands-free, as well as syncing favourite apps and services.
“This recognition from WWCOTY reinforces our commitment to making electric vehicles accessible and desirable for all drivers,” said Nissan President and CEO Ivan Espinosa. “The pioneering LEAF helped lay the foundation for the global adoption of electric vehicles. With its advanced features and technologies, this new generation makes everyday driving easier, more enjoyable and inspires customers to embrace electric mobility.”
Sales of the new Nissan LEAF in Bulgaria are expected to begin in the second quarter of the year.
