Nikola Tsolov with an impressive result in his first Formula 2 qualifying
Bulgarian driver Nikola Tsolov finished 7th in his first Formula 2 qualifying session today in Qatar. The Bulgarian lion makes his debut in the championship after finishing the 2025 season as runner-up in Formula 3 piese auto online.

Nikola will compete next year in a full season in Formula 2 for Campos Racing, and now he has the opportunity to start in the last two race weekends of the campaign in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
In his last fast lap in qualifying, Nikola achieved a time of 1.36.764 minutes and remained 0.649 seconds behind pole position winner Oliver Goethe (MP Motorsport).
Earlier today, Nikola achieved the 18th fastest time in free practice in Qatar, where the drivers were using the hard slicks. For qualifying, the track temperature dropped by 10 degrees, and the drivers were allowed to drive on the soft slicks, to which Tsolov showed that he adapted quickly.
"Qualifying was complicated, the track changed a lot, there was a huge difference because of the temperature," explained Nikola. "I felt the car well, with the first set of tires I had a good pace, I achieved good times in sectors, but I wasn't able to put them together in one clean lap."
"But with the second set of tires, I said to myself, 'This has to happen now,' and my last lap went as expected. Before that, I was finding traction in individual sectors, and finally I put it all together in one lap."
"I'm happy with the result, we have a good chance to fight in both races, but I still don't know what the real capabilities of the car are."
Nikola will start 4th in the sprint tomorrow, where the inverted starting grid is applied, and 7th in the main race on Sunday.
Tomorrow the Formula 2 sprint starts at 6:20 PM, and the main race on Sunday is at 2:00 PM.
