Oil light – engine is in danger

If the red engine oil symbol is illuminated, the oil level is critically low. Switch off the engine, wait five minutes, check the oil and top up if necessary.

Thermometer – engine overheating

There is a risk of the engine overheating! Stop at the next opportunity and let the engine cool down. When this happens, you should carefully check the coolant level. Never open the tank before the coolant has cooled down. There is a risk of burns!

Exclamation mark in a circle – from harmless to extremely dangerous

If the handbrake is applied, this symbol will logically light up red. If the warning light remains on even though the brake is released, this may indicate a brake fault: insufficient brake fluid or completely worn brake pads. In this case, stop the vehicle and call for assistance.

If the yellow light comes on: don't ignore it – but there's no need to panic.

Check Engine Light (CEL)

Yellow means: Something is wrong with the engine or exhaust system. Causes range from a faulty oxygen sensor to a loose wire and ignition problems. Driving is usually possible – but get the problem checked out as soon as possible.

ESP light

It stays on: ESP is switched off or defective. This means that the electronic safety net is missing. It is best to drive carefully – and make an appointment with a workshop. Alternative: briefly press the ESP button – sometimes this is enough to help.

Tires with an exclamation mark

Most often, the tire pressure is incorrect. Less often, the sensor is defective or not calibrated correctly. A look at the on-board menu or user manual will clarify things. And those who drive without sensors should pay attention to warning signs such as undefined steering or pulling to the side.
