At the same time, Aston Martin stressed that Newey was carrying out his duties and had recently been working at the Silverstone plant.

Newey's absence comes at a difficult time for the team, as the 2026 season has been more than disappointing for Aston Martin so far.

The most serious problem is considered to be the new Honda engine. At the beginning of the season, the team's cars were very difficult to control due to strong vibrations. That is why Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll were repeatedly forced to prematurely bring their green racing machines into the pits. Only for the race in Miami did the British team manage (at least to some extent) to fight the vibrations - and in the end, Fernando Alonso finished 15th.

However, it is not just the engine that has been the subject of criticism lately, but the entire car. According to insiders, the rather aggressive chassis, in the development of which Newey also participated, has also not given the expected results.

And if the team boss is now actually forced to be absent due to illness, the crisis in billionaire Lawrence Stroll's team will deepen even further.
