The first major international award for the Chavdar bus
The first two prototypes of the Chavdar 11 M4 were manufactured at the Kässbohrer factory in 1972, one of which was displayed at the Plovdiv Fair in September of that year. The first serial models of this type were manufactured in 1976, and mass production was mastered the following year magazin de piese auto online.

The bus is intended for intercity and tourist transport. Its self-supporting body makes it lighter than models based on chassis and allows for the placement of luggage compartments under the passenger compartment, which in turn contributes to increasing stability during movement. In this model of "Chavdar", maximum thermal and noise insulation of the cabin has been achieved. Heating is provided by an autonomous diesel heating unit and two side heat exchangers, using the heat from the engine coolant. The heat exchanger in the front of the bus blows the windshields and protects them from sweating and freezing. Ventilation is provided through the hatches, combined ventilation and lighting fixtures, movable side window panes and heat exchangers when they are isolated from the engine cooling system.
The independent suspension of the front axle provides maximum stability, facilitates steering, increases maneuverability and helps to increase comfort, both at high speeds and when driving on uneven roads. In the spacious passenger compartment, depending on the purpose of the bus, different numbers and types of seats can be located. The powerful Raba-MAN engine is mounted in the rear, which minimizes noise in the cabin and ensures excellent dynamics and high speed.
At the end of March 1977, during the specialized international exhibition of tourist buses held in Dubrovnik, Yugoslavia, the "Chavdar" 11 M4 received third prize. The salon is organized by the World Federation of Coach and Bus Manufacturers, and the awards established by it, which are awarded annually, are the most prestigious in the industry. Despite serious competition, the "Chavdar" 11 M4 (equipped with air conditioning) presented by our side is still a modern bus for its time, although its design was introduced by Kässbohrer back in the 1960s. A very positive assessment of it was also published in the specialized press in West Germany:
All bus manufacturers from Europe and some from North America and Japan were represented at the Dubrovnik show... Three buses made the strongest impression: the new Daimler-Benz 0-303 with air conditioning, the Setra 215 with panoramic windows and the Bulgarian "Chavdar" 11M4 with air conditioning. By the unanimous decision of the World Federation of Bus Manufacturers, the Daimler-Benz 0-303 and "Chavdar" 11M4 received the honorary badge of the federation with two stars; the highest distinction - 3 stars, was not awarded this year.
The same model returned with gold medals after its participation in the international fairs in Plovdiv and Brno, Czechoslovakia in 1978. During this period, "Chavdar" buses were already exported to many countries around the world.
