The new Mercedes CLA will use the unit of the Chinese giant Geely
The "heart" of the next generation Mercedes-Benz CLA will come from China! Mercedes' Geely partners have apparently managed to win the trust of the Germans to such an extent that they are providing a new 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine for the third-generation CLA. The company from the Celestial Empire is the largest shareholder of the world's oldest car manufacturer Oglinda exterioara Alkar.

According to CarNewsChina, the new powertrain was the result of a partnership between Geely and Horse Powertrain Limited, a company that Geely and Renault established on May 31, 2024 with a 50 percent stake. The 250 horsepower and 360 Nm peak torque machines will be manufactured in China and then shipped to Germany, where they will receive catalytic converters to meet strict EU emissions standards. The gasoline unit will be integrated into the 48-volt "mild hybrid" system, which will have an integrated starter-generator.
However, the Chinese technology in the new Benz will not be limited to the powertrain: the CLA will debut an intelligent city driving assistance system with artificial intelligence provided by Momenta, a start-up company with the participation of Mercedes, founded in 2017.
The new CLA will use Mercedes' MMA architecture, giving buyers a choice between a mild hybrid and an all-electric drivetrain (but no plug-in hybrid option). The all-electric version will feature a 175kW rear-axle motor, an 89.6kWh battery and a staggering 750km WLTC range thanks to an energy consumption of just 12kWh per 100km. And the 800-volt technology promises to provide a range of 400 km in just 15 minutes of charging.
The all-new CLA should appear in 2025.
