This Audi 100 TDI had a fuel consumption of just 1.76 liters

This news caused a real sensation: Miko Marcik, the 2025 European Rally Champion, drove a Skoda Superb from Lodz, Poland, to Paris, covering 2,831 kilometers without a single refueling. His car is a production Superb, equipped only with low-rolling resistance tires and lower suspension springs than the Sportline version. The car's ground clearance was reduced by 15 millimeters to improve aerodynamics - otherwise everything else was kept in its original state. Fuel consumption: 2.61 liters. Nothing new, some might say. Audi had already achieved a fuel consumption of just 1.76 liters with the 100 TDI in 1989. At the time, Audi presented the Audi 100 TDI, the first five-cylinder turbodiesel model with direct injection in a production car. The 2.5-liter engine has 88 kW. (120 hp) and 265 newton meters of maximum torque. It was initially used in the Audi 100 of the C3 generation, and later in its successor, the C4. Since 1994, the power has been increased to 103 kW. (140 hp), and the maximum torque – to 290 newton meters piese auto online.

Record consumption of 1.76 liters…

As early as 1989, Audi conducted an effective fuel consumption test with the TDI, partly to draw attention to the model. The result: 4,818 kilometers on a single tank of fuel, or a consumption of 1.76 liters per 100 kilometers.

However, the model did not prove to be very successful. Only 2,891 units were produced, and the generation was discontinued in 1991. Also, the price of the 100 TDI C3 was over 46,000 German marks. However, fuel consumption between 5.7 and 6.0 liters was possible, as well as a range of about 1,400 kilometers.
