Transporting two luxury cars on a trailer shouldn't be a problem, right? Especially since the VW Touareg isn't considered an unsuitable towing vehicle. But in this case, the driver probably went a little overboard – or overestimated the capabilities of his SUV.

While trying to transport a Ferrari 488 GTB and a Mercedes GLA, this VW Touareg failed miserably. The trailer carrying the sports car and compact SUV ended up upside down on the side of the road.

Flat tire

A witness reported on Reddit that the Touareg was clearly struggling. The witness had passed the trailer just minutes before the accident. The SUV appeared to be overloaded, the trailer was swaying – and the whole combination looked like it was about to reach its limit at any moment. Then what was supposed to happen happened: a flat tire, the Touareg lost control, the trailer came loose and overturned on a grassy embankment on the side of the road, along with the Ferrari and the Benz.

According to a report by Carscoops, both vehicles were secured and remained attached to the trailer, but this did not help prevent the accident.

Reddit comments speculate that the combination of vehicles may have been significantly overloaded or that the weight was not optimally distributed. Additionally, some Reddit users suspect that safety chains were missing or not used properly – the perfect recipe for failure.

The Touareg is generally considered a solid workhorse – according to the technical data, the large SUV can tow up to 3,500 kg. However, this weight may have been exceeded with the trailer (minimum 500 to 750 kg) plus the Ferrari (approximately 1,475 kg) and the GLA (also approximately 1,615 kg).

The extent of the damage is difficult to assess. It is likely that the roofs of both cars were damaged. Realistically, the insurance company could classify both cars as total losses. The value of the vehicles being transported is probably well over 400,000 BGN.
