Early gasoline variants are problematic

The luxury sedan is the handsome man in the luxury class. Positioned between the E-Class and the S-Class, the CLS is a large four-door coupe. The second generation of the CLS was produced from 2011 to 2018 and underwent a complete facelift in the fall of 2014. It shares its technology with the solid E-Class W 212. The Shooting Brake version is unusual in this segment.

Excellent workmanship, luxurious equipment. A wide variety of drives, from the solid four-cylinder turbodiesel unit to the powerful V8 engine with compressor from AMG.

The V6 and V8 engines often had timing chain problems and worn camshafts until 2013. In addition to the equipment packages, a richly equipped special “Prime Edition” model was also available at launch. The successor (C 257), introduced in 2018, is now only available as a coupe-sedan.

Tip: Like the 350 d (W 218) with 4Matic all-wheel drive, the CLS is perfectly motorized. The top-of-the-line diesel engine runs smoothly, delivers 620 Newton meters of maximum torque and meets the Euro 6 emissions standard from autumn 2014. The well-maintained AMG models with decent mileage are for (rich) enthusiasts.
