The Volkswagen brand has marked a new milestone in its electrification strategy – the delivery of two million fully electric vehicles to customers. The two-millionth vehicle is an ID.3, produced at the Volkswagen plant in Zwickau. It was officially handed over to customer Kirsten Formbrock this week at the Transparent Factory in Dresden.
Volkswagen began its journey towards electric mobility back in 2013 with the launch of the e-up! and has been systematically expanding its all-electric portfolio ever since. The two million electric vehicles delivered include not only the current models of the ID. family, but also earlier electric models such as the e-up! and the e-Golf. Today, Volkswagen is the leading electric vehicle manufacturer in Germany and Europe and is one of the largest manufacturers of electric vehicles worldwide.
ID.3 (approximately 628,000 vehicles delivered)
The ID.3 is the first model based on the modular electric platform MEB and marks Volkswagen's entry into the new era of electric mobility. Introduced in 2020 as the first model in the ID. family, it made electric drive accessible to a wide audience in the compact class. A model update is expected soon.
ID.4 and ID.5 (approximately 901,000 vehicles delivered)
The ID.4 and ID.5 are key growth drivers for the brand and are making a significant contribution to expanding Volkswagen's presence in global BEV markets. In addition to Germany and Europe, key markets for the SUV models are China and the United States.
ID.7 (approximately 132,000 vehicles delivered)
In 2023, Volkswagen will expand its portfolio with a fully electric sedan and subsequently with the ID.7 Tourer station wagon in the upper mid-size segment. The ID.7 embodies the technological advancement of the ID. family and shows how the brand is introducing electromobility into a new segment with long range, high efficiency and outstanding comfort.
More affordable electric mobility in 2026 with ID. Polo
The ID. Polo is the first of four new electric models that Volkswagen will introduce in the small and compact car segment in 2026. “These new models will make electric mobility accessible to even more customers,” said Martin Sander. “Our goal is to offer attractive, affordable electric cars for everyday use in the mainstream small class and thus take the next step in our transformation.”
