These cars retain their value the best: Porsche 911
AUTO BILD and Schwacke have determined the value retention champion for 2025 – these cars retain their value the best. These are the winners magazin de piese auto online.

The biggest cost factor when buying a car is often hidden: it's depreciation. Those who sell their car after a few years feel it more clearly in their wallets than the cost of fuel, insurance or maintenance.
Car valuation specialist Schwacke determines the winner of the "Value Retention Champion" award, which Schwacke also awards each year to the models with the lowest loss in value. The key factor here is the estimated residual value after three years and 60,000 kilometers, which Schwacke analyzes for tens of thousands of model variants in eleven different classes.
What trends are emerging this year? “The residual value ranking is once again dominated by series models and brands that offer either particularly affordable cars or those that rank high in the premium/lifestyle segment,” says Torsten Barg, Managing Director of Schwacke.
Mini cars are disappearing from the market
Another trend: "We are seeing mini cars disappear from the market because it is too expensive to comply with emissions regulations," says Barg. For this reason, the Value Retention Champion is this time combining mini and small cars into one segment. However, demand on the used car market remains high. They have excellent residual value.
“We are seeing significant improvements in electric cars in terms of range, charging speed and everyday suitability,” adds Barg. Electric cars are currently evaluated in separate categories in the Value Retention Champion in order to be eligible for representation. However, as the winners show, this may not be necessary in the future.
