55 years Škoda 110 R coupe
This year is full of important anniversaries for Škoda Auto. In addition to the main one, which is connected with 130 years since the company was founded in 1895, several other significant events were also celebrated, including 55 years since the debut of the Škoda 110 R sports coupe magazin de piese auto online.

The attractive model had a very positive impact on the image of the car company in the early 1970s. Its development began as early as 1966, and the first prototype with the internal designation Š 718 K was completed in March 1968 at the Škoda branch in Kvasiny. Its bodywork differed from that of the sedan with a more sloping windshield, two wide doors without window frames, and a strongly sloping roof at the rear. The first tests were carried out on some of the autobahns of East Germany, where a maximum speed of 145 km/h was recorded. The second prototype from March 1969 already had a two-chamber carburetor and an alternator instead of a dynamo.
The final model was first shown to journalists on 18 August 1970 in Mlada Boleslav, and the press conference was followed by a dynamic presentation on the runway at the airport near Choškovice. The official presentation was organized on 5 September at the Brno Technical Fair, and the first successful export deals were realized soon after the 110R was shown at the Paris, London and Turin exhibitions held in September of the same year.
By the end of 1970, the first 121 examples were completed, and exports began in the second quarter of 1971. Of the approximately three thousand cars produced that year, however, only 442 reached customers in Czechoslovakia, where the model's price started at 78 thousand crowns, or about 40 monthly salaries.
The inline four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1107 cc, a compression ratio of 9.5:1, twin carburetors and a power of 52 hp (38 kW) at 4650 rpm guarantees a dynamic experience. The engine block, as well as the housing of the four-speed gearbox, are manufactured using modern aluminum casting technology based on an original Czech patent. The coupe reaches a top speed of 145 km/h and accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 19 seconds. The effective dual-circuit braking system has disc brakes on the front wheels, manufactured under license from the English company Dunlop. Average fuel consumption is 8.5 liters per 100 km, and the 32-liter tank is located under the hood, where there is also enough space for 250 liters of luggage. Behind the rear seats there is also an additional 120 liters of luggage volume.
The impressive interior is dominated by the dashboard, whose surface in the earliest series resembled wood, but was soon replaced by a matte black finish. It is equipped with five round instruments: a tachometer with a red zone of 5750 rpm, a speedometer, an oil pressure gauge, a coolant thermometer and a fuel pressure gauge. The steering wheel has two metal spokes with round holes and a rubber segment in the center. The rich basic equipment also includes anatomical front seats.
During its ten-year career, the Škoda 110 R retained its modern appearance and high competitiveness through a number of minor modifications. From January 1973, the number of headlights became four, the two outer ones being supplemented by two smaller inner ones for fog lights, and the front seats received headrests. At the very end of the iconic coupe's career, the 14-inch wheels were replaced with smaller ones complete with 165 SR 13 tires and decorative plastic caps.
Between 1970 and 1980, the Škoda 110R was produced in 56,902 units.
