The MINI x Vagabund tandem: when the Countryman becomes a mobile disco
MINI and Austrian design and engineering studio Vagabund present a new creative project: two unique vehicles based on the MINI Countryman make a strong statement about the adventurous spirit, community culture and festival lifestyle magazin de piese auto online.

“For MINI, the long-standing tradition of individual car design is a key trademark. In its collaboration with Vagabund, MINI consistently continues this commitment and demonstrates how the creative new interpretation of the MINI Countryman – inspired by festival culture and music – is awakened by a dedicated community,” explains Jean-Philippe Parin, Head of the MINI Brand.
MINI x Vagabund: the duo
Vagabund has succeeded in overlaying the MINI Countryman with a design layer that authentically demonstrates individuality, design philosophy and community spirit. MINI provides the “stage” for expression – Vagabund delivers the creative signature. The result: two vehicles that redefine the versatility and openness of the MINI Countryman in a new way.
“For us, design does not begin with the object, but with the idea behind it – and only ends when it becomes tangible. The unique MINI x Vagabund models transform a clear idea into a tangible message. Two different characters, linked by the DNA of the MINI Countryman, create a captivating overall impression – and make design visible as an emotional experience,” explains Paul Brauchart, co-founder and head of Creative Vagabund.
Holger Hampf, Head of MINI Design: "MINI Design is synonymous with cars with character that you enjoy using and living with – true to the motto: lifestyle meets function and fun. In the collaboration with Vagabund, we were able to express our love for detail and technical craftsmanship even more with these two cars."
With a sophisticated sound system, graphic accents and a striking colour scheme, the two cars become mobile sound stages. The Melting Silver version features sand-coloured and white bodywork: playful, graphic and bright. In contrast, the Midnight Black variant is monochromatically black, precise and technical. This contrast intensifies the perception and creates an overall impression that only becomes fully apparent when the two cars are seen together.
Bodywork and proportions
The impressively revised wheel arches create a visually wider stance and give the cars a sharper look. An additional front bumper component ensures a harmonious connection between the wheel arch and the original front end. The front and rear bumpers are colour-coordinated with the bodywork modifications, and the radiator grille is also coordinated. The VAGABUND logo is visibly integrated into the side sills in three dimensions. The increased ground clearance further emphasises the off-road character of the two MINI Countryman S ALL 4 models. In addition, 20-inch wheels are fitted.
The deliberately closed design of the 3D-printed wheel covers gives the wheels a solid look and creates a clear visual association with the speakers. The roof rack consists of three laser-cut and bent aluminum plates, complemented by an integrated stainless steel mesh as an open surface. This construction references the design language of the speaker covers, thus creating a visual connection between the roof, side panels and the overall vehicle – making the roof rack an integral part of the design.
The Car as a Soundbox
The rear side windows have been removed and replaced with a specially developed sound system designed for outdoor and public event sound. At its core is a newly developed loudspeaker housing made of cast polymer granite – a material that offers ideal conditions for precise and unadulterated sound reproduction. The tweeters and mid-range speakers are integrated directly into the body, while additional low-frequency speakers in the rear provide tangible bass when the trunk is open. Each vehicle functions as an independent sound system – together the two MINI Countrymans form a mobile stage and create a captivating sound experience.
On opposite sides of the car, a special detail is located: an iconic Walkman – integrated into a 3D-printed housing. With a typical MINI wink, this creates a deliberate counterpoint to the open external sound system – a personal, soothing moment. The combination of analogue nostalgia and contemporary design underlines the experimental character of the entire concept.
MINI individualization by Vagabund
The MINI Countryman developed by Vagabund becomes a mobile platform for meetings and cultural exchange. The cars create community moments in places where people gather, enabling experiences that extend beyond just driving.
Vagabund is renowned for its expertise in reimagining existing products and transforming them visually. These two unique vehicles demonstrate the immense creative power inherent in form, function and meticulous attention to detail. MINI and Vagabund share this approach: individuality over conventionality, craftsmanship over mass-produced aesthetics, community over distance.
The MINI x Vagabund collaboration demonstrates how MINI is taking its historic commitment to individualisation into the future: bold design interpretations, culturally relevant themes such as music, manufacturer culture and community, combined with high-precision craftsmanship. The result is inspiring unique models that showcase the full potential of the MINI Countryman.
MINI will present one of these two unique vehicles to the world for the first time at Auto China 2026 in Beijing. Following the premiere at the trade show, the models – true to the community approach – will be presented to the public live and in action on various platforms.
