When someone mentions Smart, you probably still think of the two-seater city car fortwo, with the rear window that drops down right behind your neck. But the current Smart models are in a completely different league.

The 4.71-meter Smart #5, the brand's largest model to date, was recently launched. Now Smart continues its upward trajectory with the #6, a sleek sedan that clearly aims to attack the middle class - at least in China.

With a length of 4.90 meters, a width of 1.92 meters and a wheelbase of 2.93 meters, the #6 stands out significantly from everything that Smart (now a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and the Chinese Geely since 2020) has done so far. This also applies to the design: the body impresses with its distinctive coupé style, a smoothly sloping roofline and a modern, almost premium look, reminiscent of the Mercedes CLA or the Nio ET7. The model also features hidden door handles and 20-inch wheels with a complex “weave” - for an even more attractive exterior design.

Hybrid instead of all-electric

The Smart #6 will initially rely on plug-in hybrid technology, rather than a fully electric drive. It combines a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor. According to data from China, the system power is about 320 kW (429 hp). The total range with a 100% battery and a full tank should be 1,810 kilometers, with the battery alone providing about 285 kilometers on pure electricity. According to other sources, the maximum speed is limited to 200 km/h.

The Smart #6 is set to be launched in China in early 2026. Whether and when the sedan will arrive in Europe remains to be seen. But if it does arrive here, it will certainly be a pleasant surprise – especially for all those who still associate the brand only with the 2-seater model.
