Mercedes A-Class before TÜV: solid basic Benz
The A-Class has effortlessly transformed itself from a car perceived as suitable for retirees into a competitor to the VW Golf. The elegant compact car shows no signs of changing its image during technical inspections: it remains as reliable as ever. Here is an overview of the TÜV report for 2026 magazin de piese auto online.

The Mercedes A-Class is considered the best-performing used car. This is confirmed by the latest TÜV report. However, there are some limitations with older models.
Mercedes A-Class (W169)
Production period: 2004 to 2012
engines: 82 hp (160 CDI) up to 193 hp (200 Turbo)
price: from 3400 BGN
This is what it is: a cleverly designed, practical car that has put the moose test failure of the first A-Class behind it and whose 20 years do not look like it at all - that's how modern the small van is, both technically and visually. Compared to the original version, the W169 is more of a van than a Mini: the A-Class is wider, a little higher and almost 30 cm longer, but still remains parking-friendly at under four meters long.
The concept remains unchanged: front-wheel drive, flat sandwich floor, raised seating position – this appeals to the older generation, which today often drives impractical SUVs. For the first time, a three-door version is offered, although it tries in vain to look sporty. New engines are also presented: three diesel and four petrol.
This can: be a reliable companion, thanks to its engines and its flexible interior. The rear seats can be folded or dismantled in no time. For an additional fee, the front passenger seat can also be folded and removed, allowing you to fit an upright bicycle inside. For those who want to save fuel, the A 180 CDI diesel variant with 109 hp is recommended.
This is causing a stir: faulty manufacturing processes are causing rust on the lower edges of the doors and the tailgate. Mercedes has responded and fixed the problem. The continuously variable transmission (CVT) is prone to failure – which can be costly. There are also problems with the injectors and water pumps on the CDI diesel engines. The 2017 service campaign was due to incorrect coding of the control unit, which could trigger the airbags to deploy.
