Mercedes is preparing a successor to the A-Class
Mercedes will extend production of the A-Class until 2028 – and announced that it is preparing a new model at a more affordable pric piese auto online.

The Mercedes A-Class was launched in 1997 and has since sold over three million units. However, the company's strategy was to discontinue the compact model in order to focus on the high-end and luxury segments. Now, however, the giant has announced that it will extend its production period – and that the A-Class will have a successor!
An interview with Automobilwoche with Mercedes sales director Matthias Geisen reveals that the Stuttgart-based company will continue to have a lower-end model in its lineup in the future. Geisen announced that the A-Class will receive a successor after its production ends in 2028.
Thus, the manufacturer responded to the concerns of many dealers that exiting the compact segment would lead to a significant loss of (potential) customers.
The current fourth-generation A-Class was originally scheduled to be discontinued in 2026, but Mercedes is extending its production run by two years. With a base price of around €34,252/BGN 68,000, the A-Class remains the most affordable model with the three-pointed star. The new and for the first time all-electric CLA, on the other hand, starts at around €53,000/BGN 106,000 – and that marks a significant jump.
A more affordable model remains important for the brand
According to Geisen, Mercedes-Benz would offer its customers a more affordable model "in the long term." What that will look like remains to be seen. Industry sources point to a cheaper version of an SUV as a possible option.
One thing is clear: the brand does not want to lose young customers with lower incomes. Although the returns in this segment are lower, the A- and B-class models have so far generated a significant number of sales and have utilized the capacity of the plants. In 2024 alone, Mercedes will sell over 530,000 cars in these segments.
What exactly the successor to the popular A-class will look like and when its market premiere is expected remains to be seen.
