Used stylish models: Renault Avantime

Anyone who has ever had a Volvo C30, Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Peugeot RCZ, Mini Clubman or Renault Avantime in their garage has probably listened to their pulse and had butterflies in their stomach – without caring about the size of the trunk.

A decade or two after their debut, these stylish originals have aged well – like old wine. A well-preserved copy has long been more than recommended for car fans – the prices of some models are already trending towards collector's items. But that shouldn't be a reason not to use them in everyday life. Before that happens, we'll touch on the cars and reveal a few interesting details about the technology. Some of the things are not so pretty.

Renault Avantime

Production period: 2001 to 2003

power: 150 to 207 hp

prices: from 10,000 BGN.

Half-Coupe, half-van and cult! Renault still praises its bizarre design project to this day, believing that the Avantime was ahead of its time. We think this unique French car appeared not at the wrong time, but in the wrong universe. And that should be taken as a compliment. There is nothing practical about the cramped Avantime – for a van, it has absurdly little flexibility.

As for the workmanship, many people raise eyebrows at first glance: whether it's the uneven body joints, the loosely attached panels or the stiff and bouncy suspension - anyone who's already put off by the quirky design will soon give up on the Avantime altogether. Early V6s can be found for under 20,000 BGN, but the later the model is produced, the better the quality.

Weaknesses: Complicated timing belt replacement on the V6, vulnerable wheel bearings, frequently failing electrical components, and difficult-to-adjust hinges on the heavy doors.
