Performance DNA in an electric Gran Turismo - Polestar 5 Performance test
What started as Volvo's motorsport partner in 1996 has evolved over the years from its own performance tuning company to an independent premium electric car brand. Polestar has never lost its connection to motorsport – and those genes are particularly evident in the Polestar 5: an electric Gran Turismo that aims to compete with the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S. The first test drive reveals just how serious Polestar is about it magazin de piese auto online.

Controllable, even on snow
We’re driving the Polestar 5 Performance, the most powerful version. The specs list 884 hp, a solid 1015 Nm of peak torque, a 112 kWh battery and a range of up to 565 kilometers. The power of the two electric motors is transmitted to the asphalt – or in our case, a snowy gravel road in the Austrian mountains – via special Michelin tires on 21-inch wheels.
The real highlight is the adaptive BWI-MagneRide suspension. The shock absorbers scan the road surface up to 1,000 times per second and react within three milliseconds. The result: amazing control and stability, even on changing surfaces. The Polestar 5 effortlessly absorbs larger bumps, remaining calm, stable and comfortable – even when the speed increases. The balance between dynamics and composure is particularly impressive for a sports-oriented GT.
Of course, the drivetrain also plays a key role. Acceleration is exactly what you’d expect from an electric GT: brutal, direct, and yet completely effortless. The rush of power keeps you glued to your seat, giving you the typical electric roller coaster feeling. Even in the passenger seat, a smile is practically inevitable. Despite its immense power, the Polestar 5 never feels nervous – rather, it exudes control and confidence.
Nele Klein's conclusion:
The Polestar 5 is a true all-rounder. It is practical for everyday use thanks to its size, comfort features and range, but can also be sporty when needed. The Swedish performance expertise is clearly evident and has been consistently incorporated into the development of this electric GT. This is a car that not only looks stylish and elegant, but also offers impressive power – and could also secure pole position among all-electric Gran Turismos.
