The Toyota bZ4X facelift

Toyota aims to become carbon neutral by 2050. To achieve this, the brand is relying on a mix of powertrains for its vehicles. Electric vehicles are at the forefront: by 2026, the portfolio is expected to include five fully electric vehicles, and with vans and light commercial vehicles, this number will increase to ten models. Toyota has long focused on hybridization, which means hybrids and plug-in hybrids, as well as models with a fuel cell and internal combustion engine and synthetic fuels. With beyond Zero, Toyota is demonstrating its commitment to local zero emissions. However, according to the latest plans, this nomenclature will not be continued - the smaller SUV bZ3X will be sold only in China, while the fully electric Urban Cruiser will be available in Europe.

The Toyota bZ4X is positioned as an SUV in the D-segment. With the facelift, the electric SUV aims to attract new customer groups and become even more attractive.

From 2026: bZ4X Touring crossover station wagon

Toyota is further expanding its electric vehicle range and is now taking orders for the bZ4X Touring, which was introduced in 2025. In addition to the increased length (by 14 centimeters), the boot capacity has also increased to 669 liters – that’s a full 200 liters more than the bZ4X SUV. With up to 380 hp, the bZ4X Touring is Toyota’s most powerful electric model. It will be launched in Europe in late spring.

By the way: in the American market the model is marketed under the name bZ Woodland. It also has a technical sibling: the Subaru E-Outback largely borrows the exterior and interior design, and is also expected to be launched on the European market this year.

The base model with the Comfort trim level has front-wheel drive and 167 hp, and with the next trim level, Teamplayer, the power also increases: 224 hp, with the drive also being to the front wheels. The four-wheel drive variant has 343 hp.

Orders for the bZ4X Touring are open

The bZ4X Touring, a crossover station wagon based on the SUV, can be ordered from the beginning of February. The base model has the familiar 224 hp engine from the SUV in the Teamplayer trim level, and prices in Germany start at 49,990 euros. The all-wheel drive version mobilizes 380 hp.

The electric bZ4X continues the SUV's edgy design language

The bZ4X is based on Toyota's e-TNGA platform for electric vehicles. The crossover continues the edgy design language of Toyota's SUVs. The black contrasting color on the roof and fenders gives it a significantly more muscular look. The rear window is more sloping than on other models, and overall the bZ4X is 35 millimeters lower than the RAV4.

With the facelift, Toyota has subtly refined the design. A new hammer-shaped light strip marks the front between the right and left fenders, while the headlights themselves are positioned in front of the fender arches, which are now painted black. The front bumper vents have been optimized for improved airflow. You have to look closely to notice the changes in appearance.

With identical body dimensions, the bZ4X offers noticeably more space than the RAV4 thanks to a wheelbase that is 160 millimeters longer.

Size overview (bZ4X):

length: 4690 mm

width: 1860 mm

height: 1650 mm

wheelbase: 2850 mm

Trunk capacity: 452 liters

max. trailer load: 750 kg / as AWD 1500 kg

bZ4X Touring: The SUV-Coupé will get a station wagon variant

The biggest difference between the new station wagon and the SUV-Coupe is in the rear. Thanks to the more sloping rear, the trunk is significantly more spacious. This is also due to the increase in length by 14 centimeters, while the Touring has also increased its height by two centimeters. However, the wheelbase and width remain unchanged.

Surprisingly, the rear design is not just a variation of the bZ4X, but rather a completely independent design. It looks more conservative, with the taillights not as prominent as on the SUV-Coupe. Instead, a continuous LED strip and a matte silver element in the bumper, acting as a hint of a protective crust on the bottom of the body, dominate the appearance.

Another difference is seen in the wheel arches: here the Touring has large black plastic trims, while on the SUV-Coupe they are painted black after the facelift. The standard black roof rails and rustic bumpers further emphasize the more rugged, off-road-oriented character of the bZ4X Touring.

Dimensional overview (bZ4X Touring):

length: 4830 mm

width: 1860 mm

height: 1670 mm

wheelbase: 2850 mm

Trunk capacity: 669 liters

max. towing load: 750 kg/as AWD 1500 kg

The facelift promises a range of over 550 km

With the facelift, Toyota has updated the bZ4X's drivetrain, resulting in a noticeably increased range. Three electric motor combinations will be available from autumn 2025. New to the range is a 167 hp variant with a smaller battery, which rounds out the lower end of the range. At the top end, the 343 hp all-wheel drive version is the top-of-the-line version – including a towing capacity of up to 1,500 kilograms.

These are the new drivetrain options:

57.7 kilowatt-hour battery, 167 hp, front-wheel drive

73.1 kilowatt-hour battery, 224 hp, front-wheel drive

73.1 kilowatt-hour battery, 343 hp, all-wheel drive

The top variant with front-wheel drive promises a range of up to 569 kilometers (WLTP), while the variant with two electric motors and all-wheel drive with 18-inch wheels will have a range of up to 516 km.

Like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the range can be optionally increased by using solar panels instead of the panoramic roof. With a charging capacity of up to 150 kW, the Japanese SUV will be able to charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in around 28 minutes. Also new as part of the facelift is a battery preconditioning function that will improve charging power.
