BMW Z4: a truly race-bred roadster (retrospection)

BMW will refresh the Z4 model next spring. The highlight of the program is the 343 hp M Roadster.

The days are getting shorter and the sun's power is decreasing. However, there is no reason to be depressed. At least because next spring will definitely come, and with it the Z4 facelift, new engines, and the super sports version M Roadster.

After March 25, the exterior of the Z4 will change very slightly. The exterior of the roadster produced in the American city of Spartanburg is primarily noticeable by the changes to the fog lights and taillights - but overall it remains absolutely faithful to its somewhat wayward forms.

Four new six-cylinder engines for the Z4 with power from 177 to 343 hp.

However, four new six-cylinder units will take care of the necessary temperament under the long front hood. Above the basic four-cylinder 2.0i with 150 hp, two 2.5-liter engines are positioned. The 2.5i version succeeds the 2.2i (power 170 hp), and in place of the 2.5i modification with 192 hp comes the 2.5 si with 218 hp. Even the small six-cylinder engines inspire enthusiasm with their dynamic performance. A speed of 100 km/h is reached in 7.1 seconds (6.5 seconds for the 2.5 si), and the maximum speed is 229 and 240 km/h, respectively. However, who will be the one who will be able to realize the manufacturer's promised consumption of 8.2 liters with such dynamic potential remains a secret for BMW...

Even sportier are the figures of the new 3.0 si, which succeeds the previous 3.0i with 231 hp. The promising 265 hp should be enough for a 5.7 second acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h, and with this engine the Bavarian express has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km. According to BMW, the average fuel consumption is equal to a seemingly far from reality 8.6 liters per 100 km.

The highlight of the spring Munich program, however, is the M Roadster variant. In this case, the Z4 has truly become something completely special, thanks to the modified spoilers and sills and the 343 hp “squeezed” from the inline six-cylinder engine with a working volume of 3.2 liters. The M version of the open BMW model accelerates from a standstill to 10 (1 km/h in exactly 5 seconds. The top speed is limited to the traditional 250 km/h and the average fuel consumption should be around 12.1 l per 100 km. An additional dose of pleasure is added by the rear differential lock and a special button that shortens the engine's response time when the gas is applied.
