Their efficiently designed construction is fully tailored to the needs and requirements of light-duty transport, and the cargo space is made of thick sheet metal, additionally reinforced with a square section.

The L319D variant is equipped with the OM 636 diesel engine from the 180 D passenger car, which is known for its low consumption and high efficiency. It is distinguished by low fuel consumption - 9.2 l per 100 km (standard), unpretentiousness in service and maintenance, as well as unprecedented strength and reliability.

The truck-adapted gasoline engine from the 190 passenger car provides very good traction, ability to overcome slopes and a top speed of almost 95 km/h and is best suited for performing fast transport tasks.

Both versions feature the legendary Mercedes safety, exceptional travel comfort and long-term value retention. With a useful volume of 8.6 cubic meters and a loading area of around 5.6 square meters, the model is the ideal fast truck for all sectors of the economy.

The universal versions of the Mercedes L319 and L319D meet all the requirements that can be placed on a fast and efficient truck: a large cargo space and high load capacity, easy and safe operation and good behavior both in urban traffic and outside it. In addition to these advantages, the car offers considerable comfort for the driver and passengers. The dashboard, tilted towards the driver, includes all the necessary instruments and controls for easy and safe operation - a tachometer, a switch for heating and controlling the fuel-air mixture in the diesel engine, a coolant thermometer, a fuel indicator, buttons for lighting, heating, wipers and interior lighting, 4 control indicators, a fuel indicator light and a plug for electrical appliances or a flashlight.

The cars are distinguished by high brake efficiency even at maximum load. They grip softly but firmly and ensure reliable braking of the car even at full load. As an option, a vacuum booster can be ordered, which requires even less effort from the driver.

The front axle is moved well forward, which is a prerequisite for the increased cargo space, as well as for the large steering angle of the steered wheels and therefore for the incredibly small turning circle of 11.5 m. Maintenance and repair work can be carried out safely from the front. The entire engine can be reached with two handles, which is also fully accessible from the inside. The cover can be completely removed using four locks. As in passenger cars, the gears are also fully synchronized. The convenient shift increases driving safety, for example, on steep slopes the driver can easily shift to a low gear without taking his foot off the brake.

Economy and unpretentiousness are the main advantages of the four-cylinder diesel engine installed in the L319 D. It is distinguished by low fuel and oil consumption, reliability and long service life. The power and transmission mechanism are tailored to the specific requirements of transport activities. With a consumption of only 9.2 l per 100 km of diesel fuel, the maximum speed is calculated at about 80 km/h, which is covered by the constant speed.

The L319's four-cylinder short-stroke engine is characterised by its smooth running, elasticity and wear resistance. The downflow carburettor contributes significantly to the low fuel consumption of just 14.2 l/100 km.

and its good acceleration for its time. With its serious pulling power and a top speed of around 95 km/h, the L 319 was an extremely fast and maneuverable vehicle for the 1960s.
