Ford announced this month that it is expanding the availability of BlueCruise, giving thousands of new customers access to “hands-off, eyes-on” highway driving.

After the Ford BlueCruise driver assistance system initially debuted in Europe with the Mustang Mach-E, from spring 2026 the advanced driver assistance system is being introduced for four more models: Puma, Puma Gen-E, Kuga and Ranger PHEV.

Globally, Ford and Lincoln owners have driven more than 888 million highway kilometers (552 million miles) with this technology. By expanding its application to a wider range of vehicles, Ford is enabling even more customers to enjoy next-generation comfort and convenience on their highway journeys and arrive at their destination more rested and ready for the day ahead.

BlueCruise was the first system of its kind to receive regulatory approval in Europe in 2023, with its launch in the UK. Since then, BlueCruise has been approved for use in 16 European markets, making it the most widely deployed system of its kind in Europe. This opens up access to more than 135,000 kilometres (84,000 miles) of designated motorways, called Blue Zones, allowing customers to travel by car across several countries.

Thanks to its wide geographical reach, customers can now use BlueCruise in six countries. For example, a trip from Stockholm to Rome could cover over 2,000 kilometers (1,500 miles) and nearly 25 hours of hands-free driving.

“We are committed to bringing cutting-edge technology to more drivers. With BlueCruise now available on five models in Europe, we are helping to make hands-free highway driving accessible to a wider range of customers,” said Torsten Wei, manager, ADAS Features and Software, Ford of Europe. “Each model line is unique, and our team of ADAS engineers is working to expand BlueCruise beyond Mustang Mach-E to ensure safe, hands-free highway driving, no matter which vehicle a customer chooses.”

Hands-free driving, with your eyes on the road

BlueCruise builds on the capabilities of Ford's Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC) and helps control steering, acceleration, braking, lane positioning and maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front, while monitoring road markings, speed signs and changing driving conditions, from highway speeds to stop-and-go traffic.

When BlueCruise is activated on an approved highway, called Blue Zones, it allows the driver to take their hands off the wheel if they continue to turn to keep an eye on what is happening on the road ahead – providing an extra level of comfort during long journeys.

Before switching to hands-free driving, BlueCruise-equipped cars confirm that road markings are visible, that the driver is keeping their eyes on the road, and that other conditions are appropriate.

BlueCruise uses a combination of radar and cameras to detect and track the position and speed of other cars on the road. A forward-facing camera detects lane markings and speed signs. To ensure drivers keep their eyes on the road when their hands are off the wheel, a camera facing the driver checks their vision and head position – even when they are wearing sunglasses.

BlueCruise will be available on select versions of the Puma, Puma Gen-E, Kuga and Ranger PHEV that are equipped with the Driver Assistance Package. The system is expected to be available for the new model year from spring 2026. Subscription options and pricing will be announced closer to launch.
