They are lifting the ban on internal combustion engines!
The EU is planning to lift the ban on cars with internal combustion engines magazin de piese auto online.

Historic change of course in Brussels! European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EPP leader Manfred Weber have reached an agreement during a late meeting: the lifting of the ICE ban will happen. The official details will be announced next Tuesday.
Von der Leyen will take up the issue personally, while Weber has long been pushing for an end to the ban. The last controversial issues were clarified yesterday.
Weber told BILD that instead of a 100 percent ban, a 90 percent reduction in CO₂ emissions will apply for fleet targets from 2035. There will be no complete ban in 2040 either. This means that internal combustion engines will remain permitted and, according to Weber, “all engines produced in Germany can continue to be produced and sold.”
According to BILD, political signals from Italy and Poland also contributed to the agreement. A joint letter from Giorgia Meloni and Donald Tusk put additional pressure on the decision.
Weber emphasizes: "We are staying on course towards climate neutrality, but we are achieving technology neutrality. This is an important signal for the automotive industry and secures many jobs."
And another point is important to Weber: the decision removes a major election theme for the Alternative for Germany and similar parties. For Weber, the car is “a cult object, not an ideological battlefield.”
